Lodi Boy Scouts

In junior high I joined the Lodi boy scouts.  The troop had little to do with merit badges and marching was all about camping and games.  Meetings at the armory started with red-rover and dodge ball games.  Then the next camping trip was planned.  In the summer and over weekends we went up to Silver Lake.  The boys were paired and left mostly to themselves.  I was usually paired with Craig Wittmeier.

Visions

  • Lizards and Chipmonks
  • Campfires and dirty jokes
  • Hiking over granite stones with Craig
  • Wet in the rain
  • Snow trips and tobogganing
  • The men playing cards
  • Hand warmers
  • Group games of red-rover and dodge ball

Story

At one point a new scout master took over.  He was into marching, learning the boy scout handbook and so on.  He was very hard on his own kid who was rather whimpie.  The guys agreed to complain to him about this.  He left after he showed up once very drunk.
