North America, United States, contemporary Southern folk art. A small hand-modelled ceramic figure of a standing man with outstretched arms, an orange cap and patches of red and blue glaze over a pale body. The modelling is deliberately naive and the glaze is applied freely, in the self-taught tradition of Southern folk potters and ‘outsider’ artists.

Acquired from the Attic Gallery in Vicksburg, Mississippi, long a showcase for self-taught artists of the Mississippi Delta.
