Southeast Asia, northern Burma (Myanmar), mid-20th century. A small cast bronze figure of a woman dancing on one leg, the other raised behind her, arms flung out, and a tall topknot or headdress, with a dark patina.

Dance holds a central place in Burmese culture, from court performances to the nat pwè festivals in which dancers honour and channel the nat spirits. Small bronzes of dancers and musicians were made in northern Burma for local use and for the market. Field collected in Burma, 1999.
