Western Europe, Spain, Madrid, 1998. A small modern clay figure in ancient Egyptian style, sold as an ‘usebti’ (ushabti) of ‘Veus’, presented as a god who helps to pay and collect debts.

No god called Veus is known from ancient Egyptian religion. The figure belongs to a modern Spanish esoteric practice that borrows Egyptian forms, with rituals involving black mirrors, candles and invocations. Genuine ushabti were servant figures placed in tombs to work for the deceased in the afterlife (see the Faience Ushabti in this collection).
