- Country: Spain
- Source: Toro collection, Spain, acquired in the 1940s
- Size (cm): 10.5
- Material: Stone
Iberian Peninsula, ca. 5th to 4th century BCE. A carved stone votive figure of a standing nude male, flat in profile, with a rounded head, narrow shoulders, arms held close to a slender, almost emaciated torso, and simply indicated legs.
Figurative votive offerings like this were common throughout ancient Iberia, where many were placed in temples and sanctuaries as offerings to the gods. Gaunt examples like this one are less usual, because they show their anatomy more carefully than most. Provenance: Toro collection, Spain, acquired in the 1940s.
