Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Lombok, 20th century. A pair of children’s dolls carved of wood and cow bone, one with a tuft of hair and a long face, the other with a pale bone body and painted features.

Simple dolls like these were made in villages across the Indonesian islands both as toys and, sometimes, as protective figures for children. Field collected, Lombok, 2008.
