Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Maluku (the Moluccas), mid-20th century. A carved deer-horn figure of a seated ancestor with a tall crested headdress, hands brought to the face, and a polished golden-brown surface.

Ancestor figures in the Moluccas were kept in houses and shrines to embody and honour the founding ancestors of a clan. Deer were introduced to the islands and their antler was valued for amulets and small sculpture. Field collected, 2008.
