West Africa, Cameroon, Tikar people. Two small house gods: one with a round gourd-like body and painted face, the other a figure with a feather headdress, bound with leather and decorated with bone and beads.

Representing the Pygmies of the forest, the Tikar believe their house gods possess mystical spirits and powers, and use them for protection and to benefit their harvests. Field collected, 1994.
