Long Beach State College

Attended Long Beach my freshman and sophomore years of college.  I was not happy there; my scheme of having two years at an easy beach college before transferring to UC was a mistake.  LBSC was an impersonal, mediocre, commuter college.  The beach was far away, I had no car to get there, and I had no money.  Freshman year my life centered on three groups; the dorm, the speech team, and the honors program.  I was very socially awkward and did not think myself at all attractive to girls.

On the speech team I hung around with the debate partner Kathy Ross, and her friend Sharon.  Kathy like to get drunk and dramatize her life.  I just wanted to fuck her but it never happened.  As half of the top debate team, we traveled to tournaments around the country and I was introduced to fine dining.

At the dorm I listed to music and smoke dope with my friends Byron Brooks (my roommate), Steve Casperson, Bob Schumtz (?), and played cards with Ed Morroski.

The honors program did provide some intellectual stimulation but I was never really one of the in crowd there.

In my sophomore year Lyndon transferred to Long Beach and we shared a small apartment.  We jointly bought a Fait Spider.  This gave me the mobility to begin to explore the LA area.  I visited Margaret Linstrom at UCLA,

At Long Beach I began to move toward the left politically and toward the counter-culture.  I attended a couple gestalt workshops.  I also went to anti-war demonstrations.  These were often filmed by men in black suits and dark sunglasses.  The implicit threat was that participation in these demonstrations would jeopardize any future career in corporate America.
