From September 27 to October 20 I took a solo road trip in a small Volkswagen SUV. Starting in NYC, I drove through the Poconos to Pittsburgh and then south, ending up in Savannah before a two-day drive home.
27 Started at a Poconos inn in Jim Thorpe, then walked the town. Ate tri-tip at a working-class bar.

29 Warhol museum Then drove to old mansions and visited Penn Univ. Visited Hanna’s Town and talked with a local genealogy expert about the Rasors. Bad dinner at a Brazilian steakhouse.

Oct 1 Mountaineer Casino; East Liverpool ceramics museum; visited the Sheppard grandparents’ cemetery
2 Church in Wellsville; drove up and down the Ohio River
3-4 south Broadway Manor art visit talk with owners and Frank Loud Wright houses at Polymathin Scottsdale PA go to laundry and walk town
5 WV Lunatic asylum and glass museum in Weston WV,. Brother and sister showed house with Renoir and Monet paintings, fancy British antique uniforms.
6 King George Inn Roanoke Jack the former marina owner and conspiracy believer.
7 Bristol Sessions country music museum. Lunch at burger cafe local 20+ hangout. Dinner of ribs at biker bar.
8 Drove up to Big Stone Gap and back. Lots of rain and KFC for lunch.
9-10 NASCAR steak dinner at Black restaurant, fish at a Mexican restaurant
11 Columbia SC visit campus Laundromat
12 Charleston B&B walk town, drive along coast breakfast at Waffle House.
13 Beaufort SC walk about town, drive down hwy 21 to coastal islands, Gullah areas, visit the kazoo museum, visit reconstruction museum, have icee and watch old people walk by.
14 Drove north through SC: Walterboro, Edgewood, Newberry stayed at b&b.
15 South to Hilton Head
16-17 Savannah, bus tour, old couples.
18 Long drive to Richmond; almost empty conference hotel; listened to Jordan Peterson.
19 drive back
