After retiring, we spent a month in Hong Kong and then traveled around China.
We went to Guilin, Yangshuo, Yuzi Paradise art park, Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Chengdu and Chongqing, then took a river cruise toward Shanghai.
2007 Hong Kong from mid-February to mid-March. Apartment on the 26th floor of a tower above Pacific Place. Food highlights were the China Club and the Yellow Kitchen.
Fly to Guilin. Spend the night. Take the boat down the river to Yangshuo. It is very cold and most buildings do not have heat. Spend night and next day in Yangshuo and then go to the hotel in the sculpture park.
Fly to Kunming. Visit museum of the ethnic peoples of Yunnan, which was closed, but we get a private tour, meet the museum director, and buy the yellow ceramic bowl.
Take a taxi to Qiongzhu Temple (Bamboo Temple), a Tang-dynasty temple in the Yu’an Mountains about 7 km northwest of central Kunming. It has 500 statues, each with different faces and engaged in different activities. A real highlight.
