Pre-Columbian style, Guatemala. Four small carved greenstone heads, each with a headdress and a pierced hole for stringing as necklace pendants.

Jade and greenstone were the most precious materials of the ancient Maya, symbolising water, maize and life. Pendants like these may be ancient or later carvings; they were purchased in a local market in Guatemala, 1998.
