After retiring, we spent a month in Hong Kong and then traveled around China.
We went to Guilin, Yanshuo, Yuzi Art Park, Kumming, Dali, Lijiang, Changdu, Chonching, took a river cruise to Shanghai.
2007 Hong Kong from mid-February to mid-March. Apartment on the 26th floor of a tower above Pacific Place. Food highlights were the China Club and the Yellow Kitchen.
Fly to Guilin. Spend the night. Take the boat down the river to Yangshuo. It is very cold and most buildings do not have heat. Spend night and next day in Yangshuo and then go to the hotel in the sculpture park.
Fly to Kumming. Visit museum of the ethnic peoples of Yunnan, which was closed, but we get a private tour, meet the museum director, and buy the yellow ceramic bowl.
Take taxi to visit Qiongzhu Temple (Bamboo Temple), a Tang Dynasty temple, is located in Yu’an Mountains in the Northwest of Kunming, about 7 kilometers away from the center of the city. It has 500 statues, each with different faces and engaged in different activities. A real highlight.
