Lyndon and I drove across the country in his red Volkswagen Beetle. We stopped in west Texas to visit his family and Dayton Ohio to visit my aunt and uncle. We continued to the Montreal World Fair and New York City.

About when I was ten, on a winter week-end trip to Old Man’s Cave park, my mother fell over a cliff. She landed on her locked leg which broke through the hipbone socket. She was in a hospital bed at home for several weeks, her leg in traction.

When I was 8 years old our family drove route 66 from Lancaster Ohio to LA to visit my grandparents and aunts, uncles and cousins. We spent $10 a night on cheap motels, had breakfast at local camp grounds. We stopped at national parks. In LA we visited Knox Berry Farm and Disney Land.

Fiat 850 Spider with Lyndon Bittle
In 1970 Lyndon and I jointly bought a Fiat Spider 850 with the financial help of his father. Within the next two years everything on the car broke except the steering wheel.
