Came to Berkeley in 1972 after a year in Oregon. Patty and I were living together. Completed my second senior year writing my honors thesis “Newton’s Sleep.” Stayed at Berkeley through my masters and PhD then took positions teaching and doing research. Moved to Washington in 1980.

Before we were married Patty and I took a trip down the west coast of Mexico by train and bus. We visited Mazatlan, Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Tepic, and San Blas.

In 1970 Lyndon and I jointly bought a Fiat Spider 850 with the financial help of his father. Within the next two years everything on the car broke except the steering wheel.
